About Steel House
Steel House is a non-profit 501c(3) charitable organization that provides housing to University of Idaho female students who desire the on-campus living experience.
Steel House opened as a women’s cooperative in the spring of 1953 and was run by the University of Idaho residence hall system until 2007. In 2008, Steel House branched out on it’s own and is now run by a board of directors (Steel House Inc.).
What makes Steel House special? The women work together by doing chores, cooking, learning how to do light repairs, and managing a home with up to 30 residents. University of Idaho female students who choose to live in Steel House can often save up to $2,000 a year in on-campus living expenses simply by sharing household duties.
